...

I just saw an add at my school, it's a 1991 740 Turbo , 170 000-180 000 km, auto.

He/She is asking 3000 $ CDN nego for it.

Is it too much if it is in good shape ?

Would I be able to convert it to a manual tranny later ?

What is to cehck on these cars ?

I have an 86 240 DL Wagon, it's great. I've had it for a couple years now and just a couple months ago started the whole +T thing. It's got the B230F engine, and I would say based on my experience it is a great daily driver. The gas milage is decent(not the the +T, lol), and all I had to do while I was driving it was change the oil and some small general maintinence things. The B230F engine is fairly simple to +T, if you do it right and stick to the basics. My dad and I sorta got off track on a couple things(pff), so it changed some things, but no big deal. Anyways, I would reccomend 240's to anyone, but then again I'm fairly biased considering it's been my first and only car. I think you'll be happy with most any volvo, but I could be wrong. :)
