19,999 posts and no Project thread...so here's 20,000

The car was purchased in 1999 from an independant dealer/shop that dealt mostly with Volvos. It was one of just two 240s on the lot with a manual trans. My 1987 240 DL had 132,548 miles on it at the time of purchase.

The first modifications came three weeks later when the car received a Pioneer DEH-1000 CD player and Kenwood 4" speakers in the front doors. The car came with an old CD player that wasn't hooked up. It also had 5.25" Pioneer speakers carved into the rear shelf.

Here's a picture from fall '99.

my beat-to-hell-and-back DL can only aspire to such greatness.

Also, I dremeled the brake line bracket off of my front left strut. That wasn't dumb, was it?

Wow towery, I wish I was on tbricks longer to watch the transformation, your car sure has come a long way in the almost... 9 years you've owned it

I may do them eventually. The car still looks like that though, primer everywhere. When it warms up, I can blast it with spray cans (too cold to paint outside) or wrap it in adhesive vinyl...either way it will be bright white and it will be a 20-footer.

I added a little bit of info and some more pictures in my 2nd post. I'm WAY behind and it's hard to remember what I did to the car 4+ years ago.

more minilite pics?

I knwo you only have them on the front, but I would love to see some better pics of the car with those minilites. i have an '87 244 (beige baby) that I am thinking about putting minilite replica's on and would love to see what it looks like.

nice car.

thanks

I traded the wheels to MikeP and he hasn't used them yet. The steel inserts in the lug holes were extra thick, requiring longer studs, so I could only use them on the front of my car at that time because I didn't install long studs on the rear, just the front.

They are 15x7 and they are light. The offset was a little too high for the really wide tires I used (the tire was 1" past the wheel on each side, so almost 10" total width. I had to use spacers to allow the tire to clear the strut tube. I think with normal 205 or 225 tires, they may have fit w/o spacers.

yesterday while i was drivin the 242 i saw a white 244 with the rear decor panel! i was like OMG!! i dunno why i didnt follow him and ask him to sell it to me, i think i will regret it for the rest of my life.

buy anyway i thought of you and that why i bumped the thread.

Do (more) Work.

I purchased a turbo rebuild kit and removed the 60/63. The 90+ and AN oil lines make turbo removal a quick & easy process. (~30min). I also purchased a couple of used T3s, so I will install the recently rebuilt one (~60k on it) while I rebuild the 60/63. I now have two wastegate flapper assemblies, both from Volvo turbos, and one has a significantly larger disc than the other. I will port the WG hole in the turbine housing to match the larger disc while I run the smaller one on the stock 42/63. Hopefully when I am running higher boost, I won't have nearly as much boost creep (running 6psi, it would creep to over 10 at times).

I've also acquired some other useful parts, some of which may be on the car by Carlisle. The major one is new wheels, but I still need tires. I've got a lot of work to do on the car this summer, but some pieces are coming together.
