940 Early 960 / 940 armrest interchangeability

I've been looking for a cupholder armrest for my 97 940 for a while unsuccessfully and just found that GCP has a NOS cupholder armrest for the -94 960 model in stock.
I'm really tempted to buy it (it's 98? which is great for a NOS part in my opinion)

To my understanding the early 960 is more or less the same as the 940.
So question is, anyone tried this?
My search results weren't bringing up really clear results.

Below is what I found in an accessory catalogue (first picture)
It's very different to the late 960 / S/V90 ones (second picture)

I've studied parts catalogues and although the -94 960 centre console part number itself is different to the 940 (they look very similar though), the hinge they use for the armrest is the same part number on both, so this should bolt up.

I'm really tempted to just buy it although it's beige (I have grey interior).
I've always wanted one and NOS is always nice.

Also I could now finally order some other parts from GCP I've wanted for a while (their shipping costs are ridiculous).

Anyone possibly did this and able to confirm?

I have the 95- version in my 91 780.
The rear and bottom screws line up with older center consoles but the front of the armrest cubby box is held in place or centered by a lip on the newer consoles. This means fitting the new style armrest to an older console means there will be a little wiggle at the front unless you glue in a small spacer.

In reality these are functional, but are a bit flimsy, and I normally have to steady anything more than a small coffee on turns at an intersection. They are better than nothing though and look OK.
Sorry for the crap pictures... car is in the garage for a little surgery.

With anything like this, I'd look through the parts catalogue & compare the years. You can see that the console itself has different part numbers and the mounting style of the two versions is different in form & function (front catch).

I'd go for the early version, but the catches do break easily, even moreso with all that extra height/leverage acting on them from the cupholder armrest

Thanks for the responses.
I've been up and down the parts catalogue and am confident I can make this work.
Just wanted to ask if anyone has done this.

To clarify, the one GCP has in stock is the early one on first picture, which looks very similar the 940 one.

Seeing that even a later one fits in a Bertone (which has the same center console I think), I think I'll just go for it.
I'll just order every small mounting and clip things along with it that they still have, all that stuff is cheap.
I can always sell it later if it doesn't fit at all, but I don't think so.

-94 960 armrest is bolt on for 940. if you get a used one make sure you also get the latch from the donor car as these can be different. suppose your current one is magnetic. not a problem if you decide to buy a new one as it will be included in the kit

It is physically the same part except the lower mounting tab that locks console lid in place is not the same position. It will move around and it is very frustrating. It is better to source from a 940 or 740 to avoid that issue.

Thanks guys, I'm sure I can figure something out for the latch.

It will work, you just need to move the obd socket somewhere and you also need the whole assembly with part 9
That is the 95+ version which is not the one I'm looking at.

I tried to fit a 940 armrest with cup holder onto my 88 765. the hinge fits but the lock pin is a bit off and doesn't fit.

It finally arrived along with the other bits and pieces I ordered.
Very cool!

I ordered all the small bits that were still available from them to figure out the latch situation so let's see when I'm trying it on the weekend.
