240 AC Compressor connection question

Hey,

This weekend i’m diving into why my AC doesn’t work. Turns out the green wire to the compressor was cut or burned in half. It seems to go into a small black box on the top. What is this box and can I cut the wire and splice it back? Any other tips on fixing this issue ? Apologies, I am new to working on cars and am not super technical with the lingo.

The small black box is just a connector that holds the wire in place. I recently had an issue with my clutch shorting out and drawing almost 10 amps. Thought I had a wiring issue but I put an amp meter inline and the problem was actually the clutch.
