LSD diff for reasonable price

I'm busy with this racingdiffs company to make copies of the original spicer diff, I will send them a carrier and they will make a scan of it and hopefully soon re-produce it.
Including diff cross and plates etc. for reasonable prices.

edit: just checked ur uk company link, it looks very nice indeed but yeah prices huge :p

It's not "reasonable money", but Gripper (in the UK) do Volvo-compatible 2-way ramp diffs. Will report on how well it works (or doesn't) once the anti-maskers have killed each other off and we can go racing again.

We run a gripper in our 850. Its a bit noisy but so far it works great for a race car.

11 years ago I traded a pair of Austin Healey Sprite air cleaners for a factory/?dealer/? installed Volvo LSD. It has been in the V8 wagon ever since with no problems.

I've been _that_ guy, saying I would do things aaaand then not.
But now I have. A week late:

Install is easy, almost the same steps as with a locker. Instructions are good.
I did some other stuff "when I was already there", I started at 9.00 and was done at 18.00, including lunch, snacks, playing some games.

I only drove it a little after it was done, it's working, feels alright. No binding in turns, no noise.
Tested on some gravel and it keeps both wheels delivering.
I've made note of the date and odometer, the car is not driven daily so it might take some time before things break.

Relevant thread resurrection.
I've change engines and odometer and stuff since so I don't have a proper number of km driven.
But the LSD has been untouched since 2020-08-17, and I can summarize that it's performance has been in steady decline since install.
It caught my attention the other day when I backed out from my driveway, one rear wheel on packed snow and the other on asphalt. It just spins the wheel with very little (if any) indication of putting any power on the wheel on a friction surface.

I'm thinking of getting a torsen some point in the future I'll be taking this LSD out and having a look at it.
Hope the bearings and stuff ain't murdered, no sounds yet at least.

My welded 1030 has done 15000kms and 8 races (rallycross maybe 8-10 1:30-2:30min laps) with no issues. First attempt on a 1031 with a 180amp mig resulted in tossing the 3/8” plates welded into the spiders out the cover which was fixed with jb weld in a parking lot at midnight 400kms from home. This one was done at about 210amps with Lincoln ideal arc 250 and 6010 rod.... pre and post heating so the welds don’t crack off the hardened spiders is the real key. Hardest part of the whole job.... getting the exhaust out of the way on a parts car that was sitting in mud for 9 years while not breaking any of it so as not to pay for it from the reluctant owner who considered it still viable for future duty lol

Been hemming and hawwing about the $315 helical Spartan. There's also the Yukon dura grip and the Powertrax grip pro for not a lot more. I've had the lockright in my car forever, I really like it sometimes and sometimes I really hate it.

Now I'm really curious about the number of laps you run.... Maybe the ABS is at play here?

I don't think so, the ABS has strong opinions about keeping the wheels turning at about the same speed that the ground is going past, which shouldn't mean any more work for the clutches than just going around the corner without braking.

We do unload the right rear a lot under power (see other threads), so we're asking the clutches to do a fair amount of work.

The rebuild kits are cheap, and the process is pretty painless, so given the results it's not hard to justify...

For people who track their cars, its not unregular to rebuild the diff once a season or even twice a season if you want to keep things tip top.

Ben, did you say before that you are a distributor for the Gripper lsd? Might shoot you a dm or an email with some questions if so.
