"Barn Find" 1980 242. Now with Turbo LS

I may end up cutting mine out at some point, although now it's a nice home for my windshield washer bottle. In my opinion cars with body color butt cheeks look flat out terrible, so if you have to paint something black to make it "disappear" it's not lending any favors to the design. OFF WITH ITS CHEEKS

That was kind of my thought. I might leave them for the vintage touch though.:)

Yeah, that's the decision I made. Certainly the easier one!

Just a can of rubberized undercoating gave them a nice finish.

At this point, it would be easy to remove them since I have them cut up anyway, but I am trying to keep the car looking original.

For the same reason, I won't be pulling the fenders for wider tires.

Late to the party, but you have to go really low to make no butt cheeks look good. If it's normal lowered height, it looks like it's a 4x4 from the back.

Yeah, after looking at pictures of deletes, I decided it looked better with.

Here it is in its current states. Now, I have reconstructing the back of the truck where the trim attaches. It was quite rusty. Not sure if I should shave it or use the old style rubber trim with the newer bumpers.

+1 on tucking the bumpers. This is how I did mine.

Its amazing what a free Sunday afternoon can bring. Im about finished with the rust repair in the back of the trunk, and shaved the bumper trim while I was at it. Took a slightly different but similar approach as JhonnyP.

Now its on to finished welding and grinding.

Too bad this thing needed paint, it looked so solid from the original picks other then that slight rust on the rockers! This thing is going to be nice though!

It will be going the same color and I plan on having the stripe remade. The look has changed so much with wheels and bumpers.

I love it! I have a 242 GT that needs a lot of love. I was wondering what to do with the bumpers and I think I have found some inspiration here. I'm going mini tubs and a turbo lsx. Awesome find. It sounds like your wife is much more understanding that mine is. Mine HATES my Volvo obsession.

I am now getting the strut towers prepped for welding on the camber plates.

Here is what they look like before

And after
