Corivus' 1991 740SE v8 swap

I'll post a picture soon but I took it out on its first test drive yesterday.

edit:

I realized going back in this thread a lot of things are missing, looking through the previous posts I didn't post anything about the intake, trans cooler, or the trans mount also going to include some photos of the radiator.

Intake: The intake was also something I thought about a lot, thelostartof was thinking of just routing it down by the battery tray and relocating it. I kinda wanted a different look but how to pull that off wasn't in my head until he came over and jokingly was like "Well why not just put it here behind the grill? Its not like you are going to get the hood to fit normally and once we start cutting we start cutting!" I said what the hell and put it in and damn I liked that look a lot. I have 3 different hoods so I can always put it back to stock for those purist out there.

Radiator:
Ugh this was such a pain in my butt, I tried to get the stock unit to fit but in the end I decided that I was going to use an aftermarket LS swap radiator for better cooling. through trial and error I ended up with this giant beast. Oddly enough I was able to go into the back of oriely's and grab the upper front hose from a prius and the lower hose from a lexus 200h. I saved the parts numbers somewhere. Fan control is done via the ecm so its all temp controlled. I initially was getting so pretty high temps but after burping the system, refilling it, burping it and refilling it some more I realized this new radiator and engine setup take a LOT of fluid. I think I was at around 3 gallons iirc? Also if you are wondering I have about an inch of space between the old mech fan housing and the efan

Trans cooler: i've been going back and forth with using the stock lines or using some 1/4"npt fitting to -6 an banjo adapters to run lines to the oil cooler. In the end I used one of the coolers I had laying around along with some hose that I had some rolls of and the stock hardlines but chopped up so they go back and then loop back to the cooler.

Once I got that done it was a matter of filling the transmission up (that was a lot of fluid) and we were good to go.

Transmission mount:
So things go hectic for both myself and my friends helping me on this but we eventually got the trans mounted to the volvo cross member. and this is the spacer/adapter we came up with.

This is how I ended up getting it running, I've been waiting for the hood bumper and intake pipe to get here, so everything in temporary. but it runs and drives and goes through gears so smoothly, anytime I get in this car I have a huge smile on my face.

Car looks sick. Saw your post on Reddit a few days ago. Looking forward seeing it all matched up and tight.

I too can't wait, I'm tired of the regular bumper being on there, I have another white hood that I'm tempted to just cut up myself and tell the shop to get the bumper painted and I'll do the hood.

nice! Hood hinges and filter are excited also!

lol I don't blame them everytime that engine fires right up with the c4 headers it gets me all worked up as well.

I didn't realize a bunch of content got removed with the database restore so I updated one of the previous posts with the pertinent info

I had forgotten about your thread - much great reference info for my V8 swap.

Couple things - do you have specific info on the fuel line & power steering line at the rack adaptors you used?

Do you have pics of modding the firewall/tunnel for the auto trans?

Hope it's running well now!

Any chance you have the PN of the rad you used? 35223? That one is 28" wide - I think the space between the rails is 29"
Could use the PN for the lower hose - I can read the # off the upper.

Many thanks!

sorry haven't been doing social media anything a lot lately its been a weird couple of months.... to answer your questions yes the part number is 35222 from summit the 35223 was just to wide.

The fuel line fittings i'll have to see if I can find it, but it was an A/N to LS fuel rail adapter and I used pushlock hose since the fuel filter was already using A/N fittings.

IIRC it was the feed line I had to modify and put an A/N pushlock banjo thats been doing fine. the other line bolted right in since the lm7(might be all the ls engines) ps pump is the same pump as whats used in the 7/9 series. my rack however has started to leak from the seals more then previously so I think its time to replace it.

For the trans tunnel i eyeballed it after seeing what others did on the v8volvos facebook group. lots of time with my sledge hammer but I could still use another 1/2" of space around the trans dipstick tube.

hope this helps, been trying to amuse my 6 year old who's on fall break while writing this so it might of gotten a little jumbled.

Thanks for the info!

Dang. I bought a 35223 a week ago. Already threw the box out. I measured the frame rail gap at close to 29"., so I figured 28" was the one you had, based on how the 960 fan shroud fit.

I'll look on the facebook page to see if I can find any pics of the trans tunnel mods.

I found the link from my saved list: https://jagsthatrun.com/pages/pictu...tructions-for-volvo-700-series-v8-engine-swap if you scroll down you will see about halfway where he shows how much you have to clear.

Hello again

Can you enlighten me on where / what couplers you used for the MAF? It seems to be an oddball size - I measured it as 94mm on the TB side & 99mm on the air intake side...

RTsCTCw.jpg

I'll put that on the list of things to measure for you when I get to the shop on monday, iirc that 90* bend going into the front of the rad is a 3.75" pipe and same with the cone filter. We tried a 3.50" and it didn't fit properly. I'm redoing that section though and routing it down the front and ending where the pcm is located.

So I got side tracked today, started making up a bracket for my oil cooler so it would sit at an angle of 15 degrees which was successful and mounted it to the bumper.

Then I changed the routing of the intake since thelostartof has a few spare center support thiniges so I can make it look normal again.

Unfortunately my throttle stopped working and its throwing a P1515 and P1516 code so now I need to troubleshoot the harness. Maybe this means I should pull the engine now?

Also more motivation to pull the engine, the new low profile oil pan for the engine came in last week. Next up try not to say F it all and go DBC lol

Caught covid after going out with some friends this weekend so looks like I'm out of commission for a bit, this was the first time since yesterday morning that I had the energy to sit up. 1/10 do not reccomend
