Just looking in into put in a high output alternator.

Planning on a dual battery w/ a blue sea acr.

Anyone have a drop in replacement that's recommended?

TIA!

Define high output, and what car is this going on?

You can get a later Denso 100 amp off a 7/9 and it will bolt right up the the earlier 240 stuff. Is 100 amps enough? Why are you going to dual batteries?

Oh derp. Sorry HiSPL. 1988 245. I have the standard Bosch that's about 15y/o. And I believe it's 55A..

Is my 1988 a direct drop in for the 7/9's?

I have a 760 watt amp. That the 55A can barely handle...
I'm an electrician, and was thinking about taking a job in Phoenix. If so I'd probably take my ac/dc fridge with me. And I need to charge my cordless tools.
I have a spare 31m battery & enough 6ga wire.

100A would be great.

Since it has efi your car should have come with a 65-70 amp alternator. The 100 amp Denso or Bosch alternator from 740/940 turbo is a direct swap into your car.

If you need more power than 100amp then an aftermarket alternator like the mechman may be what you are looking for. They are appropriately priced.

Thanks dl242gt.

Are the 100A only in the turbo 7/9's?

I'll look into the mechmans, if 100A can't cut it..

If you go to the yard and find a Denso on a Volvo, it will be 100 amp. If it's a Bosch it could be 100A or not, depending on lots of things. As far as I know, all the Denso's were 100 amp. I have one sitting in my garage myself. I really need to put it on since I converted to an electric fan. The stock (also 88 240) alternator just doesn't cut it anymore.

I've pulled an 80amp Denso before, so try to read the label and confirm. I used to be able to grab a denso every time I hit the yard, but redblocks are so scarce I don't know the last time I saw one. You may be able to score one in the FS section here. I try to put a denso on all my cars, so I'd hunt one down if I were you.

Thanks mblue, my other pile is a Toyota. Denso is the way to go.

Crossing my fingers. Northbay was pilfered a decade ago.

Does it usually quote an amp rating on the denso's? I don't recall one on my tacoma's...

I did this with a 150a gm 6 phase alt but admittedly I went back to the stock external fan bosch 80a to get the cluster/exciter (in a 240) to work correctly: https://forums.turbobricks.com/showpost.php?p=6272506&postcount=5 Also find a 4 pin alt like AD244 or DR44 like mentioned and not a 2 pin computer controlled model.

Would not recommend a used denso. They are crap. Get a rebuilt 100 amp Bosch from fcp.
I reluctantly agree with this. Compared back to back with a bosch 80a (external fan, i haven't tried any int fan models) being pushed at idle with an underdrive crank pulley, the 100a volvo densos performed noticeably worse. Terrible comparison, I know, but I went through 3 of them thinking they were bad/worn, but they just perform worse than the bosch when pushed at low rpm. on a stock car they're probably fine? :e-shrug:

I used a Denso for a bit when my stock alternator crapped out. One upside is that when mounted in the 240 location it is a bit smaller. That makes it easier to fit a full sized oil pressure sender and get at the motor mount.

Although the voltage regulator soon acted up so I repaired my stock alternator.

Thanks guys!

Alot of newer volvos. But just one 244 & two 745's.

Found a bosch out of 90 700 turbo?

Appears to be in good condition. Stickers have faded. Would this be an 80 or 100?
